Beginning with the ever-popular STEAM subscription boxes (Kiwico for example) we now have snack subscription boxes, family adventure boxes, dating boxes, painting and artsy boxes, and finally cooking and baking boxes for teaching kids how to cook!

I have been a fan of STEAM subscription boxes for many years, but this year I decided to branch out and try something new.  This month I’m trying a kids cooking box and I hope to try a snack box (Universal Yums) within the next month or two.

But why try a kids cooking box?  A kids cooking kit is a cooking class in a box that shows up on your doorstep every single month.  Inside this box, you find everything you need to get your kids started with learning to cook, without any effort or research on your part.  You didn’t have to find and come up with child-friendly recipes, let along recipes that fit along with a fun and educational theme.

Benefits of Teaching Kids to Cook

There are many benefits of teaching kids to cook.

  • Self-sufficient life skill
  • learn about science and chemistry in action
  • Practice creativity and art
  • Family bonding time
  • Have some fun!

Trust me – trying to scour cookbooks or Pinterest for recipes and activities that fit within a theme that goes along with our homeschool is definitely not on my to-do list.  I don’t have time for that!

Getting a new box in the mail is a lot of fun, and that’s probably my very favorite thing about subscription boxes.  One day I hope to have the money to subscribe for many many subscription boxes!

What’s Inside The Baketivity Baking Kit?

Baketivity – New Addition!

Newly added as of November 2021, Baketivity is probably one of my very favorite kid subscription boxes on this list.

I have tried a lot of monthly subscription boxes in my time. Many of those boxes have followed a baking or a cooking theme. In all my years, I have yet to come across a kit, especially a kids baking kit, that is as comprehensive as the Baketivity subscription kit.

This monthly subscription for kids is perfect for their parents too. Each monthly box comes with 12 different recipes that are not only easy to follow, but the ingredients are all items you can find in your pantry or refrigerator.

Encourage your kids to spend some quality time together several times a week experimenting with the additional recipes. They will love it and your stomach will love it too!

Baketivity is right for you if:

  • You have a child who is interested in cooking/baking
  • You want your children to learn how to cook/bake
  • You don’t want to spend hours searching for recipes or coming up with ingredients
  • You want to make cooking/baking fun without putting forth a bunch of effort/energy
  • Your kids love getting surprises in the mail on a regular basis
  • You want to include supplemental lessons and educational activities but don’t know where to start

When you buy a Baketivity kit, you will not only be getting a handful of recipe cards and maybe a colorful utensil (like with other baking kits). Instead, you will get:

  • Pre-measured dry ingredients – every single one! All you need to come up with are the liquid ingredients.
  • Easy-to-follow instructions for completing that month’s special recipe
  • A whole collection of colorful, kid-friendly baking and mixing utensils
  • A small book’s worth of recipe cards for extra cooking fun
  • Supplemental learning activities for extra educational adventures
  • Plus a child-sized apron and chef’s hat

Our first Baketivity box was a Gingerbread House theme and we got every single dry ingredient pre-measured and bagged for our convenience. Yes, even the sprinkles and decorations!

All we had to do was dump, mix, and bake! It was insanely easy and the kids had a ton of fun.

The kit also came with so many utensils and tools that we’re going to have to come up with a new place to store them. Not necessarily a bad thing. In fact, the kids are quite excited about this new problem.

Everything in this picture came with our kit! Amazing, right? Compared to other kits that only come with maybe a whisk or a spatula, this was a refreshing arrival.

Are you convinced? Don’t take my word for it! Try Baketivity for yourself! Check out the Baketivity subscription options now.

What’s in the Raddish Cooking Kit?

The day we received the Raddish Kids cooking box in the mail was a very good day indeed!  My kids LOVE cooking so, of course, they were counting the days until our first box arrived, and then they proceeded to ask me every single day thereafter when we were going to start our cooking club.  They were thrilled when it was finally time.

For our first box, the theme was Thailand and included many goodies.

Culinary skill lessons – It’s like having a Food Network expert chef in your kitchen, teaching you some expert-level cooking skills.  The perfect cooking class in a box.

Iron on apron patch – Raddish Kids sells a child-sized (and very cute) apron separately on their site and if you buy this apron, you’ll get a new apron patch every month in your subscription box to add to it.  Keep track of all the countries you’ve ‘been to’ through your cooking lessons.  It’s like boy/girl scouts but for cooking.

Collectible conversation starters – Boost family time with a new pack of conversation starters in every box.  These are a great way to get kids, tweens and parents really connecting.

Cultural lessons – Last but not least, each Raddish Kids box includes some cultural lessons that go along with the theme of the box.  This was perfect for our homeschooling family as we got to learn a little bit about Thailand while we were cooking.  I love combining lessons and subjects in our homeschool and this subscription box brought together science, STEAM, life skills, and geography.  Can we say homeschool mom score?

complete grocery list – no guesswork involved.  All I had to do was take my card to the store and grab all the ingredients.  Easy peasy!

This was a really great activity to include in our homeschool.  My 8-year-old especially loved making a carved apple swan.  Side note – did you know fruit carvings are quite popular in Thailand?  I didn’t before but we got to learn this fun Thai tidbit during our cooking class.  And all the instructions for the carved apple swan were included in the Raddish subscription box.

We enjoyed following the step by step recipes and each of my young chefs got to participate so this was a whole family-friendly activity.

I have always wanted to focus more on teaching kids to cook, but I have never really known where to start.  This kids cooking box made it easy to teach my entire homeschool how to cook, regardless of kids’ ages.  From the 2-year-old up to the 11-year-old tween, there was something for everybody to do, with no stress or creativity on my part.

I can’t wait to see what we learn in our next box!
