Why Should You Use These Valentine’s Day Multiplication Worksheets?

The fact of the matter is that learning your multiplication facts well is one of the most important things you need to do in elementary school math. It’s fundamental to math fluency.

Why? Because it provides the very basic building blocks for all upper level math. Knowing your facts makes it easier (and way faster) to multiply with multiple digits, divide, work with fractions… it makes it easier to do things all the way up through algebra!

It’s why we spend so much time teaching kids to multiply.

And through our experience teaching over the years, one thing has held glaringly true: students who didn’t learn their multiplication facts well almost always struggle later in math. There are very, very few exceptions, if any.

Math worksheets like these that drill common facts are a great way to practice. And practicing multiplication facts really does make perfect. Yes, your children need to thoroughly understand how to multiply, but at the end of the day, memorizing facts is necessary (we have an entire article about memorizing math facts here!).

By memorizing math facts, students can recall them quickly, making more complicated problem solving easier. They’ll also recognize patterns and solve problems more effectively.

And with Valentine’s Day on the horizon, these Valentine multiplication math worksheets make the task just a little bit more enjoyable for the kids!

How to Use These Math Pages in Your Homeschool

Want to know the best way to use these Valentine’s Day math worksheets in class? Well, there might not be a best way, but here are a few ideas that could work in homeschool or traditional classroom settings:

1. As a timed test: These free printables are the perfect set up for a timed test – I can attest that I’ve used them for this purpose in my homeschool. With five different sheets, you could do one a day in the morning as a timed warm up. It’s the perfect way to get into Valentine’s Day math!

2. As homework: If you’re in a traditional classroom and need to assign homework, these look a little more fun than standard math drill sheets you might otherwise send home. And it’s great to give parents a way to practice multiplication at home with kids.

3. During math centers: If students are rotating through math centers, having one of these fact sheets at a station is a great way to work on remembering multiplication facts.

4. As a pre-assessment: Starting a multiplication unit and want to get an idea of what the kiddos already know? One of these math pages would make for a perfect pre-assessment to check prior knowledge.
