To start our list, we’ve got Scoob!.  Scoob! is a movie you might not have seen yet because it was released during the pandemic of 2020.  Due to the lockdown, it skipped theaters and went straight to digital rental and purchase.  Right now, you can stream it on HBO Max.  Considering the non-traditional release of this movie, the ratings are incredibly good!  This Scooby-Doo themed movie is a good kid-friendly Halloween movie that will get kids in the monster-mood, without scaring them silly.

2. Monster House

49 Kids Halloween Movies to Watch With Your Family This Halloween 449 Kids Halloween Movies to Watch With Your Family This Halloween 5

Monster House is another child-friendly Halloween film that a teensy bit on the scary side.  If you have a sensitive child, this movie might give your youngster nightmares, but more mature kids will love this scary movie.

Monster House is about a group of kids who believe the house across the street is not only haunted, but a monster that eats kids!  They must work together to solve the mystery of The Monster House and save each other from being monster food.

Right now, you can stream Monster House on Hulu.

3. Scared Shrekless

Scared Shrekless is a spinoff of the original Shrek movies that is perfect for October.  This 21-minute Halloween short film that features the famous Shrek characters telling scary stories of their own.  My young kids did not find this movie scary at all, just good old-fashioned fun.

You can buy this DVD on Amazon and add it to your Halloween movie collection. At the time of writing this article, it’s not available to stream anywhere.

4. The Addams Family

49 Kids Halloween Movies to Watch With Your Family This Halloween 849 Kids Halloween Movies to Watch With Your Family This Halloween 9

There are many movie versions of The Addams Family, and all of them are Halloween classics that aren’t too scary for (most) kids.  The overall theme of The Addams Family is that there is a family (with the last name of Addams) that consists of oddball family members with really weird quirks – and their hilarious interactions with normal neighbors and community members.  This is definitely not a scary movie and instead is quite comedic!  A must for older kids.

These shouldn’t be confused with the popular Netflix series, Wednesday. That Netflix show is definitely not appropriate for young viewers, although you could use VidAngel to filter out objectionable content. That said, it’s still geared more towards teens.

You can watch the 1991 and the 2019 versions on Paramount+.

Which version is your favorite? Tell us in the comments.

5. Harry Potter

49 Kids Halloween Movies to Watch With Your Family This Halloween 1049 Kids Halloween Movies to Watch With Your Family This Halloween 11

Warner Bros Harry Potter is another popular family movie around Halloween time.  This might be considered a bit of a scary movie for younger kids, but older kids will enjoy watching this fun movie about witches, wizards, and magic – especially if they’ve read the book!  In fact, you could watch all 8 movies in this series and turn your family movie night into a family movie weekend!

Right now, you can stream them on HBO Max.

6. Labyrinth

49 Kids Halloween Movies to Watch With Your Family This Halloween 1249 Kids Halloween Movies to Watch With Your Family This Halloween 13

Jim Henson’s Labyrinth is an older movie (1986) but it is a classic Halloween movie so if you’re rounding up a months’ worth of scary movies, then this one, of course, had to make the list.

Labyrinth is about a 16-year-old girl who must solve a labyrinth in order to save her baby brother after the goblin king grants her wish that he would disappear.  This is a heartwarming story about sibling love.  Careful though, this movie is a bit too scary for little kids.

You can watch it right now on Hulu or for free with ads on Pluto TV.

7. Scooby-Doo and the Witch’s Ghost

49 Kids Halloween Movies to Watch With Your Family This Halloween 1449 Kids Halloween Movies to Watch With Your Family This Halloween 15

If you ask me, Scooby-Doo and the Witch’s Ghost is one of the best movies in the Scooby-Doo franchise.  Why?  Because the zombie, monster, or ghost in this case, is more than just a measly criminal dressed up in a scary costume.  When I was a kid, I used to watch this kid-friendly Halloween movie every single year, and now my own kids are fans as well!

It’s currently available on Boomerang.

8. Frankenweenie

49 Kids Halloween Movies to Watch With Your Family This Halloween 1649 Kids Halloween Movies to Watch With Your Family This Halloween 17

Frankenweenie is a movie by Tim Burton, and like all Tim Burton films, it’s a little bit odd.  This animated film follows the story of a smart young boy whose very best friend is a dog.  When the dog dies in a tragic accident, the boy is devastated – until the day he decides to figure out how to bring his dog back to life! (Think Frankenstein.)  Even though this movie is dark and weird, it is heartwarming and a little bit funny.

Honestly, I think it’s a weird movie with a lot of dark themes.  Additionally, when my kids were younger, they were very confused about what happens when you die and they legitimately thought that lightening could bring you back to life, thanks to this movie.  I was not a happy mama.  But now that my kids are older, I have begun allowing them to watch this movie again, and it’s one of their favorites.

So keep that in mind when you introduce Frankenweenie to your kids. Older kids, however?  They are definitely fans.

You can stream it on Disney+.

9. Hocus Pocus

49 Kids Halloween Movies to Watch With Your Family This Halloween 1849 Kids Halloween Movies to Watch With Your Family This Halloween 19

Now if we’re talking true Halloween classics, Hocus Pocus is definitely considered to be one of the best Halloween movies of all time.  This movie follows Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimay as The Sanderson Sisters, three sister witches who must suck the souls of little children before the sun rises the day after Halloween – or they turn to dust and are no more.

Hocus Pocus and The Sanderson Sisters are mildly scary for the littlest of children, but mostly this movie is just hilarious!

Even though this movie was made years ago (1993) it’s been loved by millions year after year.  For many, it’s not even Halloween until they get to watch Hocus Pocus.

You can stream it on Disney+.

10. Gremlins

49 Kids Halloween Movies to Watch With Your Family This Halloween 2049 Kids Halloween Movies to Watch With Your Family This Halloween 21

Gremlins is another kids’ Halloween movie that has stood up against the test of time.   If you grew up in the 90’s or early 2000’s, then you surely remember this fun movie.

Gremlins is about a funny-looking little creature (who honestly reminds me of the once-popular Furby) that begins to invade a small town after a teen makes a mistake.  I would recommend saving this movie for older kids as impressionable kids might take the jokes in this movie the wrong way.  However, older kids and teens will get a kick out of these mischievous critters.

Watch it for free with ads on Pluto TV.

11. Nightmare Before Christmas

49 Kids Halloween Movies to Watch With Your Family This Halloween 2249 Kids Halloween Movies to Watch With Your Family This Halloween 23

Another Tim Burton classic (perhaps his most popular movie), The Nightmare Before Christmas is a Halloween favorite amongst kids and adults alike.  Some consider this movie to be both a Christmas and a Halloween movie at the same time.  I, however think Christmas movies should be brighter and more spirit-filled than this movie is.  Nightmare Before Christmas makes a great Halloween movie though, and this is one of my husband’s favorite Halloween movies.

Nightmare Before Christmas follows Jack Skellington, Jack The Pumpkin King, king of Halloween, through his quest to shake things up and bring some new and exciting traditions into his life and the lives of his friends.  A little dark for younger kids, older kids and teens will likely enjoy Nightmare, especially if they enjoy other Tim Burton films.

You can stream it on Disney+.

12. The Witches

49 Kids Halloween Movies to Watch With Your Family This Halloween 2449 Kids Halloween Movies to Watch With Your Family This Halloween 25

The Witches is a slightly scary Halloween movie that won’t give kids nightmares and instead will just send a chill up their backs.  The Witches is about a young orphan who goes to live with his grandmother.  Little does he know, across the way are a coven of witches who want to rid the world of children.

Sounds scary, but this kids’ Halloween movie is actually quite sweet. Rent it on Amazon.

13. Casper The Friendly Ghost

49 Kids Halloween Movies to Watch With Your Family This Halloween 2649 Kids Halloween Movies to Watch With Your Family This Halloween 27

Casper The Friendly Ghost is another not-so-scary Halloween movie that is perfect for young kids. Casper is a friendly ghost (like the title suggests) who just wants to fall in love – but the lack of body, not to mention his prank-pulling uncles, makes this harder than it seems.

Casper is both a heartwarming and hilarious movie that will leave your kids with some fond Halloween memories.  And if you liked this movie, there are even a few sequels!  (My favorite is Casper meets Wendy – but be sure you catch the original first!)

Watch it on Peacock Premium.
