Why Invest in a Good STEM Curriculum

Why Invest in a Good STEM Curriculum 1 Practical Help for Homeschool Parents and Teachers

What Is STEM?

Do you enjoy STEM activities in your home? STEM activities are any activities or projects that revolve around the STEM or STEAM acronym and they are commonly included in a good STEM curriculum. A STEM curriculum is just one of the many aspects of a successful homeschool curriculum.

STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. STEAM, which is STEM’s cousin, adds the word Art to the mix. While most STEM and STEAM projects are interchangeable, more people are familiar with the term STEM than STEAM, so that is the term we will use for today’s purposes.

However, know that at Hess UnAcademy, we consider STEM and STEAM to be synonymous.

Why Invest in a STEM Education?

There are so many reasons for parents and educators to invest in a STEM education. And yes, this holds true no matter your age. Whether you are in elementary school, middle school, or high school, a STEM education is important for any real-world jobs that require critical thinking.

Children who engage in a STEM curriculum or a STEM education while they are young typically grow up to be problem solvers, critical thinkers, and world changers. These kinds of education programs and learning environments are quite literally developing the leaders of tomorrow.

As children face the design challenges that come along with STEM activities, online STEM courses for kids, and lesson plans, they learn to solve problems that nobody else has figured out how to solve yet. These kinds of learning experiences come together to make the world a better place.

It's true that the most important thing in "school" is to learn HOW to think! My husband and I are both scientists/engineers so we know first hand :) I already have the Dragons book so I'd love the gardening one!
