Khan Academy – (Pre K – 12th grade and beyond) Like your local public school, this popular online homeschool resource follows United States federal education curriculum recommendations (i.e. common core). Free but often asks for donations from readers to keep them funded. Your kids can level up their little avatar plant thing as they progress, which is fun. They offer individual courses through adulthood so there’s plenty for everyone, all in one convenient location.
Daily Grammar (K-12) not a curriculum but rather a source for learning and teaching proper grammar (according to American standards). Younger kids will enjoy basic phonics lessons. A great supplement for anybody who is putting together their own free language arts curriculum. Includes lessons and quizzes.

This free online homeschooling program is even better than those dry online courses you find elsewhere. How to Put Together Your Own Lesson Plans
If you take the route of finding your own curriculum and resources, chances are you’re looking for easy ways to combine them into meaningful lesson plans. This method has long been used all throughout the history of homeschooling, and rightfully so.
When you choose to piece together resources, it becomes easier to accommodate your child’s individual learning style and supplement other curriculum. It also saves you tons of money! Here are some practical tips for putting together your own lesson plans.
And if you’re serious about putting together your own curriculum, this free unit study planner will help guide you so be sure to grab it!
Have an idea of what you want to teach.
Before pulling resources together, you’ll want to figure out what you’d like your children to learn. You can find a variety of lists and ideas of subjects and concepts typically taught for every age and grade.
Using that as a starting point, you can begin mapping out concepts to teach your kids throughout the week, month, or entire homeschool year.
Begin to pull resources.
With an idea of what you plan to teach in mind, you can begin looking for specific curriculum and resources to use. If you don’t want to print and store everything as you find them, consider using your bookmarks tab to store websites that you can come back to later.
Keep it organized by creating folders for specific grades and subjects. As you print resources, store them in folders, binders, or trays.
Implement your resources.
Keep in mind that you don’t have to use just textbooks, workbooks, or printable worksheets to homeschool. You can also incorporate videos, movies, songs, field trips, and the like.
The more variety you add to your homeschool, the less likely you are to be overwhelmed. Always keep your kids’ learning style in mind and pull resources that complement that.
And there you have it! Rinse and repeat.
This may be an ongoing list so be sure to bookmark it and check back often! If you have anything to add please put it in the comments below.
And remember to download your free homeschool budget worksheet! Let it guide you on your journey so you never overspend.
