Here’s how to create a Christ-centered Easter egg hunt for your kids and loved ones.

Are you struggling to come up with ideas for enjoying a Christ-centered Easter egg hunt with your family?

I know a lot of Christian families who want nothing more than to focus on Christ during this most important Easter season.

But try as they might, they just cannot come up with simple, child-friendly (and mom-friendly) ways to make Christ the focus of their celebrations.

Especially when they feel the guilt that comes with leaving out all the ‘fun’ parts of Easter (like the Easter bunny). Celebrating a Christ-centered Christmas is easy! But Easter? It’s not always so simple.

Does this sound like you?

If you’re struggling to find ways to share a Christ-centered Easter egg hunt with your family, you’ve come to the right place.

One of the easiest ways to keep Christ as the center of Easter is by including activities that focus on Jesus Christ.

Raising Kids with a Christ-Centered Easter

Growing up, Easter was always a special time in our home.

Our family would spend the whole week preparing. We’d go to the neighborhood Easter egg hunts. We’d do cutesy little Easter crafts.

Easter morning was always filled with the excitement of an at home Easter egg hunt along with the fun of exploring our Easter baskets.

And last, but certainly not least, we would wrap up our Easter Sunday with a wonderful church service and a delicious family Easter dinner. Usually ham – my favorite!

While growing up with these Easter traditions was a lot of fun, if I’m honest, the only time we really discussed the real meaning of Easter was at church and then over dinner. The rest of the time, it was all fun and games.

Not to say fun and games are a bad thing. But the world we are living in is getting scarier and scarier. Even good Christians are falling farther and farther away from good, gospel principles.

As parents, if we want to protect our kids from these dangers, we must step up! We must bring more of the true meaning of holidays into our lives, not less!

So today I am going to share with you some of our family’s favorite Christian Easter traditions. You see, we are able to include Jesus in every aspect of our celebrations, and we still find we have plenty of opportunities for candy and fun.

My Guide to a Christ-Centered Easter Egg Hunt

Every year we have our traditional Easter Egg hunt.

We dye hard-boiled eggs every year.

Plastic Easter eggs are filled with goodies. Eggs, candies, and coins are hidden all over the house.

All of these typical Easter traditions are most definitely included at our house. But in addition to coins and candies inside of our plastic eggs, we include a little something special.

    A puzzle of Jesus Christ.

This is seriously one of the best (and simplest) Easter ideas we’ve ever tried. A beloved family tradition to say the least.

This Easter activity is perfect for all of your loved ones; from preschoolers to teenagers to adults!

The first year we did this, we were on a super tight budget and couldn’t afford to buy a new puzzle.  Puzzles are expensive, guys!

When you are enrolled with HPInstant Ink, it is a lot cheaper to just print off a page or two than to buy a new puzzle. And that’s the life situation we were in at the time.

So I went and found a nice picture of Jesus’ resurrection and printed it off.

I cut it into a handful of puzzle pieces and put each piece inside an egg for the Easter egg hunt.

On Easter morning, the kids were not only pulling out plastic eggs filled with candy, but with a random puzzle piece as well.

When all the eggs were found, we gathered the puzzle pieces together and put them on the table.

The kids were confused at first (I am NOT a crafty person so unfortunately, it was not immediately obvious to these kids that they had found puzzle pieces – hahaha!) but once they figured out what they had found, they were thrilled to work on putting the puzzle together.

After they put together the picture of Jesus’ resurrection, we discussed it.

The kids were still young at this time, so we had a quick and simple discussion that covered the basic Easter story.

Over the years, the discussion has gotten a little more in-depth and has included more and more scripture references. But the basics are still the same.

Jesus Christ, the son of God, suffered for us in the Garden of Gethsemane. He is our Savior.

He took upon Him our sins. He died for us. And on the third day, He was resurrected. The First Easter. He is risen! His body and His spirit came together again.

He did all this so that we might have the opportunity to return to heaven to live with God, our Father, again after we did.

This is the Easter story. And this is why we celebrate Easter.

    Puzzles Featuring Jesus Christ

Some years we search for a good puzzle and buy it. This is definitely my preference when we can afford it.

Other years we can’t find, or don’t want to spend the money on, a good puzzle so we make our own by cutting up a picture.

But this is a fun tradition we do every year that reminds the kids of the true meaning of Easter in a sweet and simple way.

And good news, today is your lucky day!

How would you like some free printables?

I found the license to a few pictures (so we’re not stealing anybody’s copyrighted images) and put some stenciled puzzle outlines on top of them.

This way you can easily make your own printable Christ-centered Easter puzzles for your Easter egg hunt.

Or alternately, you could do your own Easter-themed scavenger hunt! The choice is yours.

I put them all in one pdf for you. Feel free to download and use as many as you want! The perfect Easter printable!

More Religious Easter Egg Hunt Ideas

Looking for some ideas other than the Jesus-based puzzles? Here are some more ideas for a Christian Easter egg hunt.

      1. Have a Bible verse scramble. Hide eggs with different parts of bible verses in them and have the children put them together to find out what they say.

      2. Include Easter-related items in your hunt such as crosses, palms, lilies, or doves. You could also include pictures of Jesus or other Christian symbols.

      3. Use Resurrection Eggs! These are 12 hollow eggs that each contain an item associated with the Easter story, from John the Baptist to Jesus’ Resurrection. Place these items in eggs and have your children search for them.

      4. Incorporate traditional Easter symbols like bunnies, lambs, or chicks into your hunt. Have each egg contain a message or saying about how these animals tie into Christianity and the Easter story.

Christ-Centered Easter Basket Ideas for Kids

Raising a large family can be expensive.

Over the years, most of our Easter baskets have been filled with candy and coins. Nothing fancy or expensive. But our kids, the little loves, have always been thrilled with these simple Easter baskets.

However, as we’ve climbed up the corporate ladder, our income has gone up, and so has our ability to invest a small amount into an Easter basket for each kid.

But in addition to any toys or educational games we decide on, we always make sure a great portion of our Easter gifts has a strong focus on Christ.

Here are some of our favorite Christ-centered Easter basket ideas for kids!

I am in the process of putting together a round-up of Christ-centered Easter activities for kids. This round-up will include fun DIY ideas such as resurrection rolls, the jellybean prayer, and other holy week fun.

I might even include some kid-friendly Passover ideas!

Stay tuned for this fun round-up. I hope to have it up by the end of March.
