Take A Virtual Field Trip With Adventurous Mailbox

Have you ever heard of The Adventurous Mailbox?

I had never heard of The Adventurous Mailbox until about a month ago.

The owner (Andrew) and I were working on a campaign together, spearheaded by a third party. Throughout the course of this campaign, Andrew and I really hit it off.

We both love children and we both have a passion for giving kids a glorious childhood, filled with enriching educational experiences.

So when Andrew approached me about doing a review on his project, I was more than happy to oblige.

What is The Adventurous Mailbox?

Well, that’s a good question. And the answer is too in-depth to be satisfactory with a simple sentence or two. I am no marketing expert. I am no good at what they call ‘elevator pitches’. I like details and pictures and examples.

So I will do my best to answer this question for you in my own way – with long-winded stories and colorful pictures.

Remember – even though I was asked by Andrew to review The Adventurous Mailbox, and even though I received product in exchange for this review, I will always share the absolute truth with my audience. If I don’t like it, I won’t endorse it. Period.

But I like The Adventurous Mailbox.

Take A Virtual Field Trip To Finland

The first project in the Adventurous Mailbox package takes place in Finland.

This means you’ll spend the first chapter of your adventure learning all about Finland!

Learn about the Finnish people and their culture. (did you know Finnish people are very quiet and reserved? Or that they are known for their high intelligence?)

Learn about Finland’s geography and climate. Discover the magic of the Northern Lights (which you can see in Finland) and learn about Finnish food.

Code a snowmobiling adventure that takes place in the northern forests of Finland.

Our Finland Virtual Field Trip was definitely an adventure. The kids learned more about Finland in this one week than I learned in my entire life!

Completely Done For You Homeschool Lessons

When you purchase your Adventurous Mailbox kit, you get access to 8 adventure books.

Each of these books is written for roughly the 4th or 5th-grade reading level.

My kids (8 and 10) and I read together and discussed the things we read. Characters and their development, guesses as to how the book would end, and cultural uniqueness about the country the book took place in.

With your purchase, you also get members-only access to all the online content. This content includes a variety of lessons, worksheets, and other fun extras.

We were able to go through just the first book (Finland) and most of the included lessons in a week.

During that week, we had done-for-us lessons that included vocabulary lists, science lessons, geographical lessons, cultural articles, and a coding project. There were even instructions for a really cool art project! (we hope to get to the art project later this month)

Outside of this book, I didn’t have to work on anything but math with my kids for the entire week!

Vocabulary Words and Worksheets

The Finland lessons included a list of 30 vocabulary words that can be found throughout the book.

Each vocabulary word was clearly defined so the kids could easily understand what it meant and how to use it in their daily lives. There were worksheets and puzzles for the kids to solve that reinforced this knowledge.

We didn’t go through the worksheets together, because we are not a worksheet kind of family. But I went through them on my own and they look like they’d be great for a family who is into worksheets.

There was an included teacher’s book that had all the answers to the worksheets (including answers to the crossword puzzle)

Which reminds me – there was a fun crossword puzzle where the kids got to practice their new vocabulary words. My kids thought that was good fun!

A Year’s Worth of Done For You Homeschool Lesson Plans

The teacher’s section of The Adventurous Mailbox also includes in-depth workbooks that walk teachers and students alike through reading comprehension, an entire writing unit, and critical thinking projects.

The creative genius behind The Adventurous Mailbox really went all out.

I know I said we went through the first book and the coding project in one week. During that week, we skimmed through the vocabulary words and lesson plans. (not a worksheet family, remember?) But we haven’t even begun to go through these other workbooks yet.

I am particularly excited to have the kids make their own guidebook of Finland. It will be fun to see what they have learned come together in a creative guidebook!

Seriously – we could probably spend an entire MONTH on the Finland book and its accompanying lesson plans alone.

If you think about it, the 8 Adventurous Mailbox books and all of their done for you lessons could really cover an entire year’s worth of homeschooling lessons.

And all you had to do was enjoy the adventure as a family!

Learn About World Cultures In Your Homeschool

As detailed and impressive as the vocabulary section of the Finland lesson was, I’m not sure what I was expecting when I clicked on the link for additional lessons. But I do know that I got more than I expected.

As a family, we got to watch a neat time-lapse video of the Northern Lights. This opened the door for more discussions about my husband’s personal experiences seeing the Northern Lights growing up.

I love when our homeschool lessons naturally invite real-life learning and real-life experiences into the mix.

There were links and articles about Finland and ‘A Day in the Life of a Finnish Child’ information that we found interesting. Plus the book itself opened a nice window into what Finnish culture is like.

I have never been out of the United States. But after reading this Finland book, I almost feel like I have a connection with the Finnish people.

They are a fascinating people with some strange habits. But reading this book makes their differing culture seem a lot more relatable.

Try Authentic Recipes

Part of visiting a new country is trying all the fun, local foods!

This virtual field trip adventure is no different.

In the members-only section of the website, you’ll find unique recipes that feature foods from the countries you are learning about.

We had the fun opportunity to make some Pannu Kakku – a Finnish custard pancake. It was fun to make and eat a food from the country we had just spent a few weeks studying.

The recipe was easy enough for the kids to follow with minimal supervision. And the whole family agreed – it was quite delicious!

Learn To Code With Adventurous Mailbox

Every book in The Adventurous Mailbox series includes a fun coding project for kids.

My kids have been slowly learning to code this summer. Spencer loves it and is diligently working to become a skilled coder.

Nicole, on the other hand, is not as much of a fan of coding. So the projects included in The Adventurous Mailbox were especially nice for us.

Nicole, my child who would rather be outside working with animals or running through the trees, actually enjoyed learning how to code this fun animated project.

It was so fun to watch her and Spencer laughing and giggling and trying different variations of ‘tricks’ they could make their project do.

This coding project was easy for the kids to understand (I only had to intervene a handful of times) but it still stretched the kids and made them grow. And they had a lot of fun with it.

Take Virtual Field Trips All Over The World!

After you are through with Finland, you are free to move onto the next chapter of your virtual field trip around the world.

Explore countries such as Thailand, Taiwan, Peru, Greece, and Brazil!

We are headed to Taiwan next. I am very excited. Taiwan is a beautiful place and I can’t wait to learn more about it!

After Taiwan, we’ll be headed to Brazil. The creator of The Adventurous Mailbox (Andrew) says the Brazil adventure is one of his favorites. So I’m excited to get to that chapter!

Right now there are 8 adventurous locations available. I have not heard if there will be more adventures in the future…but I certainly hope there will be! I already find myself wishing this adventure would never end.
