The Best Inexpensive Mother’s Day Gifts
#1 – MasterClass
Homeschool mom’s spend a lot of time pouring themselves into their kids’ education. But why not give them the opportunity to invest in their own interests? MasterClass is the perfect way to do that.
MasterClass is a resource unlike any other, with exclusive videos from the world’s best experts in their field. Your mom can learn pretty much anything she wants from the best of the best. And right now, MasterClass is running a special promo on up to half off gift subscriptions!
You can learn more in our MasterClass review here. You can also learn more about how the gift subscriptions work here.
#2 – A Movie Night
One of my favorite things to do is just sit and watch a movie while snacking on some delicious treats. As far as where I watch the movie? I’m not too picky.
Movie theaters are lots of fun, but renting a Vudu movie at home (or even watching one on Disney Plus or Amazon Prime) is fine by me. Just give me some goodies and let me put my feet up for the night.
Depending on your budget, there are lots of options with this one. Movie theaters are good places for date nights or family outings, or even just a girl’s night out. Or a cheaper option would be to watch something new at home. Redbox and Vudu are inexpensive options.
Does your mom live far away? Order a Blueray and send it straight to her house!
If you need a suggestion, I HIGHLY recommend Mom’s Night Out. This movie is hilarious and family-friendly.
Or check out this post filled with more family-friendly movie ideas for any budget.
#3 – Dinner
I don’t know about you, but when I’ve spent all day feeding babies and teaching kids (homeschool mom, remember?) not to mention cleaning the house and trying to stay calm and happy and loving (and…and…and…) the last thing I want to do at the end of the day is make dinner.
But alas, all those silly kiddos still get hungry. Every single night. And so dinner must be provided.
A fantastic and potentially cheap Mother’s Day gift idea would be a delicious dinner! Make dinner yourself for your wonderful, loving mother. Or take her out to dinner and let somebody else cook for her AND clean up after dinner. Score!
If you live far away, I don’t know any mom who wouldn’t appreciate a gift card to a restaurant. You can even order some from Amazon and send them straight to her.
#4 – Favorite Snack
In case you haven’t noticed by now, I have got a MAJOR sweet tooth. I love me some delicious goodies. Seriously, the quickest way to my heart is by buying (or making) me something delicious.
This is another budget-friendly gift idea! Make your mom some cookies or brownies. Buy her her favorite treat. You could even go all out and make her one of those fun candy bar posters, or another delicious gift basket. If your mom is anything like me, she’ll love it.
#5 – Mom Jewelry
Alas, I do not have a set of my own mom jewelry yet. But every year I Google all the pictures and ads for those fun sets. Maybe one day Ben will take the hint and buy me what I really want! (Haha, kidding! -Mostly!)
These pieces of birthstone jewelry are so pretty and most of them are customizable. Is your mom the jewelry type? Maybe she’d like one of these!
#6 – Mother and Me Photo Session
Sometimes I get a little bit of a sentimental streak and want to do something extra memorable.
When I was a Senior in high school, I wanted to get my mom something unique – something I’d never given her before. (And something my brother and dad had never gotten her before either.) I also wanted to get her something sentimental and sweet to comfort her after I left home and moved away after graduation.
So sentimental me decided to take her to get some Mother and Me photos done. We dressed up in matching outfits and went down to a portrait studio in the mall and got our pictures done. More than a decade later and my mom still has one of those pictures framed on her ‘special things’ shelf.
You could have a friend or family member take your pictures if you don’t want to spend money on a portrait studio. Or, many cameras have timers these days so you can just do it yourself.
Moms love pictures of their kids, but not many moms get to be included in pictures regularly. Give your mom the gift of a happy memory that will never fade with a mommy and me portrait session.
#7 – Phone Call
Maybe you’re better than me, but I hate talking on the phone. Give me a text message or an email any ol’ day. Thankfully, my mom is the same way. We’re not really the type to just sit and chat on the phone very often. And neither of us is upset about it.
But even with both of us not really being phone people, there is something special about calling your mom on Mother’s Day. For some moms, a phone call just to chat and say ‘I love you’ is the perfect gift.
#8 – Hand-Written Card
I’m not gonna lie – I’m not really into the whole hand-written card thing. And thankfully, neither is my mom. (Wow, we’re a lot alike!) But I know a lot of moms who just tear up at the thought of their kids writing their feelings down in a card.
If your mom loves cards, try writing one of your own instead of buying a pre-fabbed one from the grocery store. That extra step makes a seemingly simple gift a lot more personal. All About Mom Printables can double as cards as well.

#9 – Personalized Handprint Gifts From The Kids
I am SO sad to say I couldn’t find any photos of handprint projects we’ve done in the past. (They’re buried in the storage unit somewhere, I’m sure)
But I enlisted the help of some of my blogger friends and they allowed me to use some images of handprint crafts they’ve posted about.
In the past we’ve done
- Handprints on oven mitts (easy, cute, and functional!)
- Handprints on terra cotta pots (terra cotta pots are SO versatile – fantastic ideas are all over Pinterest) This is something both my mom and my mother-in-law have LOVED
- Handprints on dollar store plates – these are easy and make such a cute decoration after!
- Handprints on aprons
- Cut-outs of handprints turned into paper flower bouquets

#10 – More Sleep
We all know a mother who is sleep-deprived. Maybe you are the mother who is sleep-deprived. I know I am! (This momma has been awake since 2 am.)
Give the Momma in your life a well-deserved break. Take her kids somewhere so she can sleep in peace! If you are the sleep-deprived mom, turn on a movie for your kids and take a much-needed nap. It’s your day. Enjoy it!
#11 – A Seed Bomb
Moms love flowers but bouquets of flowers die and flower seeds can sometimes be more work than they’re worth. However, these DIY seed bombs are a perfect solution to both problems!

Even younger kids can make mom her very own seed bomb using this simple tutorial. Make these as a gift before Mother’s Day or give mom seeds and make these bombs together afterwards. It’s a win-win either way! Bonus – these garden bombs are extremely affordable.
BONUS #12 – Homeschool Supplies
Every homeschooling mom wants some new homeschool supplies. They may not be glamorous or fancy, but believe me – she wants them. If you’re the homeschool mom I’m talking about – feel free to treat yourself! You can even convince yourself it’s for the kids (if it makes you feel better!)
I’ve got a list of current deals on homeschool supplies on Amazon Prime here. But check back often because these deals change regularly!
I hope you found this list helpful and you’re able to find an expensive Mother’s Day gift that makes your mom and your wallet happy.

I love handwritten cards from my kiddos! They're so sweet, and even though mine are pretty much grown, that extra touch of something handwritten means a lot. Thanks for a great post! Pinned to remember for my own mom!

good suggestions, though honestly, my guys know better than to get me jewelry. A rabbit, a new cage, a bunny based tshirt... all would make me smile. :)
