Raising Successful Kids with Success Principles
If there’s one thing that every parent wants for their children, it’s to be successful in life. Oftentimes, we leave it up to the school system to teach them the critical skills needed. And for homeschoolers, we typically trust the curriculum chosen to intertwine them. But what if you could teach success principles with children’s books? What if you could get your hands on tips and resources and intentionally teach them yourself?
Well, friend, keep reading because we have the answer to those questions, and then some!

The Importance of Teaching Success Principles
Contrary to popular belief, becoming successful begins long before college or choosing a specific career path. With the right mindset, perspective, and focus, success is something that can be taught at an early age using a variety of principles.
Many of these principles, though, are rarely singled out as important to teach. But think about it… The world our children are growing up in today is much different than just 10 years ago, 20 years ago, and definitely 30 years ago.
What was once seen as a natural part of life learning began being stripped out of curriculum. It stopped being taught as its own entity. Teaching life skills related principles has slowly become something you pay business and life coaches thousands of dollars to learn. These principles become professional development courses.
The truth of the matter is, success principles should be taught early and continually. This will set children up for success long before they realize they need it and are using it. Not to mention, the type of success I’m talking about isn’t earning a six-figure income. I’m talking about being a successful member of society – personally and beyond.
Success Principles Children Should Learn Today
As I mentioned before, there are a series of characteristics that do not come naturally to children. They may “pick up” on them, but it isn’t until they are purposefully taught that they’ll truly understand how they work.
Below is a non-exhaustive list of principles children should learn today:
- Leadership.
- Teamwork.
- Starting and finishing a task.
- The significance of small and simple actions
- Becoming a good man (for boys).
- Putting effort into long term projects.
- Being okay with not fitting in.
- Focus on one thing at a time (and stop multitasking).
- Understanding the gain and loss of material possessions.
- Seeing opportunities for financial success.
- Being productive.
- Overcoming fear.
- Making wise choices.
- Noticing and overcoming mental roadblocks.
- Listening to the Spirit.
- How to not chase perfectionism and grow into full potential.
- Connecting with Heavenly Father.
- Understanding the need for failure.

How to Teach Kids Success Principles with Children’s Books
First and foremost, you need a good set of success principle-teaching books. You may be able to find some after a good, long search, but I just so happen to be married to a man that has taken a great deal of time in putting out the best series you could possibly put your hands on. I’m not being partial, I’m being real.
Each of the principles mentioned above can be found in this children’s book series, and they have all been created with children and real-life instances in mind. Another fascinating fact is that when you see For Kid By Kid on a Hess UnAcademy book, you know that the book was illustrated by a kid.
The Hess UnAcademy children’s books, also known as Life Hack Books for Kids, are a project we have decided to pour our whole heart and soul into.
As a team, we have been writing and developing these great books for several years, perfecting them until they contain the best success principles for kids to learn. This picture book series strives to teach kids how to easily implement these principles in their daily lives. Our goal is to help parents easily raise successful kids – kids who are set up to enjoy a truly successful life.
Right now we have 15 digital picture books published and available to purchase or read for free with Kindle Unlimited, but beginning this summer, we are also launching a full line of articles, video lessons, and paperback books for kids and adults to learn and teach these success principles together. Stay tuned, because it’s going to be big.
In fact, if you want to get notified whenever we publish a new children’s book or video lesson, sign up below and I’ll add you to the list. You’ll be amongst the first to gain access to these wonderful resources.
Use these children’s stories in your homeschool or with your public school students, and with your nieces and nephews. The principles taught in this list of books will benefit the life of anybody who chooses to implement them. In fact, there’s nothing that says your high school students can’t also benefit from these books!
(In fact, a series of chapter books designed specifically for tweens and teens in middle school and high school is on the books, hopefully to be completed by 2022.)
That aside, here are some quick and practical tips for using children’s books to teach success principles:
- Get a good series of books.
- Plan the order of principles you want your children to learn (our series is ordered but you can totally switch it up).
- Create a plan of action for teaching each principle (for example, use together time, morning basket, or the unit study method).
- Reiterate the principle in real-life situations.
It’s really that easy! Like the author says:
“I know most people don’t have the time or possibly even the skills to just make a children’s book about the principles they know work. All the research and parsing down of the idea so that it can be understood by a younger child. The writing and rewriting and editing and testing of effectiveness and then repeat of rewriting and editing again and retesting for effectiveness and rewriting and editing again, then finally illustrating and then all the digitizing and finally publishing for those who want to save everyone else the hassle. You’re Welcome. From a parent to a parent, let me save you some time, effort, and frustration.”
