Basically, you fold a piece of paper into a fancy claw-like shape that you can manipulate with your fingers. Kids pick slots from the cootie catcher or fortune teller and after a few rounds of counting the numbers, the answer or end result is revealed!

These are tons of fun for kids and it’s amazing the different themes or fortunes they can come up with.

Well, today I made you a chore chart version for kids who need a chore to do but who want something more fun and creative than just a boring old list.

This chore chart fortune teller includes one page with pre-determined chores for your child to do. You’ll find things like sweep, mop, do the dishes, and take out the garbage.

How to Play with Your Fortune Teller

First, you’re going to follow the printed instructions to fold your fortune teller.

Once folded, have somebody stick the origami fortune teller on their hands so their two index fingers and two thumbs are sitting in the empty slots. Hold the fortune teller so it is closed and only the four images show.

Have the child pick one of the images. Open the fortune teller so that image’s numbers show.

Now have the child select a number. Move your fingers back and forth so different views of the fortune teller interior are showing with each count. Do this for the number of counts that the chosen number shows. (If your child chose 7, do this 7 times.)

Now have your child chose another number. Lift that flap to reveal the chore and you’re done! Repeat with the next child until every child has something to do.

Easy peasy! Let me know if you have any questions. Leave your question in the comment and I’ll be sure to clear up any holes in my instructions.

Enjoy! And remember to grab your fortune teller!
