What Is The Nativity?
The Nativity scene is a depiction of the birth of Jesus Christ. This event is also often called the Christmas Story (not to be confused with the movie A Christmas Story – the Christmas Story is a much more impactful event that affects us all.
The stories about the Nativity come from scriptures in both Matthew and Luke in the Bible, which can be found in the scripture book called the New Testament.
When you study the stories of how Joseph and Mary brought Baby Jesus into this world, you will learn the miracle that was Christ’s birth. You will learn how the Angel came to Mary and told her of God’s plan to send His Son to the Earth.
You will learn the trials that Mary and Joseph had to face in order to bring this event to pass. And you will learn all about those who first came to know of Christ and His birth.
The Nativity scene typically includes a manger with Baby Jesus, His mother Mary, and her husband Joseph. This scene took place in a barn, or stable, with the humble and lowly animals.
When these are the only characters in a Nativity scene, it is also known as The Holy Family.
Oftentimes, a depiction of the Nativity scene also includes shepherds and wise men. These characters were an important part of the Nativity story because they were some of the first to hear about and belive that Jesus Christ had finally come.
Without the Nativity, we would not have the greatest miracle of all, Christ’s Atonement. That’s why it’s so important to learn about the Nativity, especially during this time of year.

There are several reasons, but I think the most important one is that it helps kids understand the true meaning of Christmas.
Christmas isn’t just about getting presents and eating lots of good food. It’s about celebrating Jesus Christ and His Atonement.
When we take the time to focus on Christ during Christmas, everything else seems to fall into place. We are more patient with our families, we are more giving to those in need, and we just generally feel happier.
