What Do You Do When Math Gets Boring?
My kids (like most kids, I’m sure) tend to have a short attention span.
Instead of sitting down on doing bookwork for hours on end, or working endlessly on printable worksheets for kids, they would much rather go play!
I mean really, who wouldn’t? Even I would rather do something fun than trudge away at boring old bookwork.
We have found a math curriculum that works for our family, and the kids are doing well at it. But some days, they just need a break from the mundane schedule.
Those are the days I break out my secret stash fun math secret weapons.

Make Learning Fun With Math And Art
There are a few things you can do to shake things up in your math class.
But one of our favorite ways to make math fun for kids is to bring a little art into our math class.
And really, what goes together better than math and art?
Math and art are two very complementary parts of the brain. When you are engaged in one, the other is being naturally supported. So it only makes sense that when you combine both art and math, the end results are better retention of both!
(Wow…say that 10 times fast…)
Art is the reason many educators have changed STEM to STEAM. Both math and art require spatial reasoning skills, along with the ability to recognize patterns.
When you develop skills in art, you are developing skills in math, (and vice-versa) whether you realize it or not.
Fun Art Projects That Use Math
Now take a look at this fun book.
If you’re looking for a great compilation of projects and activities that combine math and art, then this book definitely needs to be added to your basket of homeschool resources.
Imagine spending math class creating and exploring art with your kids – instead of fighting and crying over another textbook.
This book, written by the brilliant Karyn Tripp, walks you and your kids through more than 40 math and art projects.
But not just your typical, everyday projects. Inside you will find unique ideas that incorporate fine art studies, symmetry, equations, counting, kitchen fun, and more.
Wow Your Child With Addition Color By Number Worksheets
While you’re waiting for your fun book of projects to arrive, why don’t you take a look at these fun math worksheets?
I was inspired by the giant book of math and art projects and decided to create a few art-inspired worksheets of my own.
Now I’m not as cool as Karyn and there was no way I was going to have the patience to create more than 40 fancy art projects, so I’ve only made a couple addition worksheets.
But these will be fun worksheets for your kids to work on while waiting for the book to arrive in the mail.
Feel free to print them off again and again!
Or if you like, you can check out some of the other bundles I’ve created. I’ve got multiplication worksheets and division worksheets. Or for more additing fun, I’ve got some free addition spinners here.
They are not 100% focused around art like these addition worksheets are, but they still include some fun math-related activities for kids. Check them out!
Remember to Snag Your Book!
Remember to snag your copy of the math and art projects book! Your kids (and your sanity) will thank you.
(And considering the time of year, wouldn’t this make a great stocking stuffer?)
I can’t wait to hear what your kids thought of the projects! Please comment and tell us what your favorite activity was!
