Why You Should Try Easter STEM Activities

What exactly is a STEM project? STEM activities are valuable lessons because they focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math.

These are all subjects with global application and impact. Many colleges and careers focus on academic success in these specific school subjects.

For an activity to be considered STEM, it must incorporate two or more of these subjects within the lesson.

Our free printable, along with the activities below, provide lessons rich with the scientific method, engineering concepts, and math application. They are the perfect resource for your classroom.

What’s Included in the Free Easter STEM Printable

Our Free Easter STEM Printable is a great way to get introduced to a STEM activity. Here’s what’s included in the Free Printable to build an Easter Bunny Trap:

  • Lesson Page: A detailed page with a lesson objective, materials list, step-by-step procedures for the activity, and the expected outcome.  This gives you, the teacher, an all inclusive lesson with insight into how the activity should conclude.
  • Blueprint Page: A space for your students to create, plan, and predict what their project will be.
  • Experiment Log Page: A chart for your students to take notes during each phase of their experiment. They get to log how variables and changes to their design affect their outcome.
  • Reflection Page: A space for your students to journal about their finished experiment, give their final opinions on their design choices, and make conclusions.

The worksheets provided in this printable follow the Scientific Method and seamlessly walk your students through a STEM experiment with an Easter theme.

  1. Easter Slime: Kids can learn about polymers and creating new substances all while getting messy and having fun. By mixing equal parts of clear glue and water in a bowl, then adding a teaspoon of Borax solution and some fun food coloring, your kids can make their own Easter Slime.
  2. Dyeing Easter Eggs:  Coloring Easter Eggs is a common pastime, but did you know you can teach about color absorption too? By dropping eggshells into bowls of water, a splash of vinegar, and food coloring, your kids can see how the shell absorbs color. You can also check out our post on this Easter Egg Dying experiment.
  3. Egg in a Bottle: Teach all about vacuums with this clever pressure trick. By using a hard boiled egg, glass bottle, piece of paper, a cold bowl of water, and a match, you can demonstrate how differing air pressures can pull an entire egg in and out of a bottle. Place a burning piece of paper inside the glass bottle to create high heat and vacuum suck the egg inside. You can then release the egg by placing the glass bottle into cold water.
  4. Easter Egg Chromatography: Kids can learn about color pigments when using coffee filters dipped into different egg dyes. When the filters are placed into a cup with a little bit of water, the colors separate into different pigments.
  5. Easter Egg Planters: Use empty egg shells as planting pots. Simply fill the shells with soil and grass seed. Then treat them as a normal plant with water and sun.  Kids get to learn about plant growth and you have a way to use egg shell scraps.

How to Use Our Easter STEM Activities in Your Classroom

Do you like the thought of using STEM activities in your classroom but aren’t sure how to incorporate them into your lesson plans? Here are some unit ideas to help you integrate STEM activities with your students:

  • Create a Science Journal: The STEM activities provide everything you need from materials list, to procedures, to documenting results of an experiment. Keep a journal of findings from all the science experiments you do in your classroom.
  • Present a Science Demonstration: Share one of the STEM activities as a teacher led demonstration to introduce a new concept or theme.
  • Make Math Fun: STEM projects are a great way to show math applied in the real world. Practice graphing results or measuring amounts to solidify math skills.
  • Art with Science: Use a STEM project in colorful and artistic ways. For example, you can decorate Easter eggs with a science experiment and compare how the design differs from using normal paint or dye.

There are an infinite amount of ways to use STEM in your classroom and find value in the activities. Want even more STEM ideas to use? Check out the Easter STEM Workbook for even more fun lessons.
