What Is An Exploding STEM Experiment?
Simply put, an exploding STEM experiment is any science experiment that results in a big bang!
There are all sorts of ways to create an explosion in the name of science.
You can use household chemicals to create a chemical reaction. You can combine multiple ingredients or materials and create a physical reaction. Or you can manipulate kinetic energy and potential energy to create some real motion!

What Ages Can Enjoy Exploding STEAM Experiments?
When it comes to STEM projects and explosions, there is really no age limit. From preschoolers (pre-K) to Kindergarteners, from grade school to middle school, and even high school and adulthood, exploding STEM projects are fun for everybody!
The only thing to keep in mind is that some of the materials or chemicals used in these experiments may require adult supervision.
Other than that, anyone can enjoy a good STEM explosion!

How Do Exploding STEM Experiments Help Kids Learn?
In addition to being super fun, exploding STEM experiments are also a great way for kids to learn about science, math, and engineering.
Science experiments that end in an explosion are a great way to introduce kids to the scientific method. You can even utilize these free scientific method worksheets for some extra learning fun.

Suggested Materials To Have On Hand For These Explosive STEM Projects
Each STEM activity will require its own materials. However, if you have a few common household items on hand, you should be able to enjoy most exploding STEAM activities.
Some of our favorite items to have on hand include baking soda, vinegar, cardboard, popsicle sticks, tape (all kinds), construction paper, scissors, empty water bottles (or soda bottles), Diet Coke, Mentos candies, balloons, and small toys or marbles.
