Wondering where this word search fits into your classroom? Here are a few ideas of how I have used it in my class. These should work in a traditional classroom or homeschool setting:

• Unit intro- If you’re getting ready to teach a unit on Black History Month, you might want to preview some of the important people you’ll be studying. And a word search is a great way to introduce the names. You can even go through the names with the students and briefly discuss if names they recognize, and let them know they’ll be learning more about them, as well as the names they don’t.
• Reinforce vocabulary- Word searches are a great way to reinforce vocabulary learned in a unit. In this case, it’s a great way to get kids to keep thinking about the important historical figures they’re learning about during Black History Month.
• Reward time- Sometimes students need to be rewarded with fun work. Let’s not confuse it with busy work. But maybe your student finished an assessment or a difficult project and needs some downtime.
