How to Play Thanksgiving Scattergories

Scattergories is easy to learn and will keep everyone entertained during the holiday season.

This printable version is based off of the Hasbro board game Scattergories.

To play this version, begin by printing out the pages. This game includes 4 pages, one of which is the cover.

Scattergories Game Play

  1. Pick the word list you are going to play with. Make sure each player can easily see the chosen word list (you may need multiple copies).
  2. Make sure everybody has a writing utensil,
  3. Pick one of the letters. You can go in order using the provided list sheets (each player will need their own) or you can use your own piece of paper.
  4. Set a time for 1-2 minutes (depending on the ages of the players).
  5. Each player has until the timer goes off to write down an answer for each associated prompt on the word list that begins with the chosen letter.

For example, if you are playing with the letter H and word list 1, you would put down items such as TYPE OF PIE – Huckleberry, FALL LEAF COLOR – Harlequin, FALL VEGETABLE – Horseradish, and so on. Continue until your list is full or the timer goes off.

  1. When the timer goes off, gameplay ends. All players must put down their writing utensils so they can compare lists.
  2. Go through each prompt and compare everybody’s answers. If there are any duplicate answers (multiple people put huckleberry pie for example) that answer is disqualified. Additionally, if there are duplicate answers on one list (you use huckelberry for pie and fruit for example) each of those answers are disqualified.
  3. Tally up everybody’s scores. The one with the most points wins!
  4. Repeat as many times as you want! Use multiple word lists and multiple letters. This game is different almost every time!
