STEM projects are all the rage these days. But what makes a good STEM project?

That can be a bit tricky to define. In general, though, a good STEM project is something that engages kids in hands-on learning while teaching them important scientific or mathematical concepts.

Here are a few things to look for:

  • Engaging – STEM projects should be engaging. They should be more than just a worksheet or a set of instructions. STEM projects should be hands-on, so that kids can really get into them.
  • Multi-Subject – STEM projects should cover more than one subject. This way kids can learn about different aspects of STEM all at once!
  • Findable Materials – The materials for the project should be easy to acquire. You don’t want to spend hours (or days!) tracking down everything you need.
  • Clear Instructions – With a good STEM project, instructions should be clear and easy to follow. Otherwise your child is likely to get frustrated and give up!
  • Tailored Interests – STEM projects should be tailored to your child’s interests. If your child is interested in dinosaurs, for example, look for dinosaur STEM activities that focus on archaeology or paleontology. If they’re interested in space, look for solar system activities that involve building rockets or designing space stations.

By finding projects that match your child’s interests, you’ll help keep them engaged and motivated.

With these tips in mind, you should be able to find plenty of great STEM projects for your kids. They’ll have fun while they’re learning!
